Visit to Alvin!
What the hey is going on with Mr. Oaf's guestbook? I have been desperately trying to tell him that I have Bruce in a spiderhole up on Monte Sano, and how about some Smarties, Sir? and the dang thing keeps telling me that the server is having a bad hair day and can't be bothered to post my missive.

Dang. Double Dang. And the bears will never know how much I love Blow Up, and what a fabulous actor I think David Hemmings was.

You'll all be happy to hear that Miss Bunny is healthy. How do I know she's healthy? Because she saw Alvin yesterday!

Yes, it's true, we took her to see Alvin for her first "Well Bunny" visit in three years. It's been six months since we last saw him and she has shown no signs of any further Pasteurella. She has had some problems with extreme stomach growling (probably the results of chewing a hairbrush or something else the evil bunny fairies brought her) but otherwise she seems perfectly fine. Still, we thought maybe Alvin should have a look, just for old times sake.

It was a joyous reunion. She visibly lit up when she saw the sleeve of his lab coat, and he visibly lit up when he saw the perfectly firm and healthy state of her cheek. He spent about five minutes just massaging her jaw, and then another five minutes just scritching her ears.

"She's a miracle bunny!" he beamed. "She's a testament to great nursing care! She wouldn't be around if you hadn't taken such great care of her!"

Despite my head swelling slightly, I begged to differ. Mirage is a tough bunny, and has survived way more than just a Pasteurella infection in her life. I think even with lousy nursing care she would have pulled through.

And beside, good veterinary care had a little something to do with her survival as well! I mean, Alvin's not too shabby!

I mentioned that Bruce and I have been thinking about taking in a Sanctuary bunny, and he nodded thoughtfully and said he'd definately give us a reference and put us in touch with the HRS people who handle this.

For those of you not into animal rescue, a Sanctuary animal is one that, for various reasons, is not adoptable under any circumstances. Usually the reasons are extreme illness requiring extreme nursing care, which most people are not willing to provide. Bruce and I have talked a lot about my desire for another animal, and we both agree it would have to be a desperate case.

This is actually the first time we haven't had an extrmemly sick animal in the house for about six years. Believe it or not, I miss having a sickie around! And I think I'd be good at Sanctuary care. Not to mention that if we did get a Sanctuary animal through HRS, we'd probably get some back up help if we wanted to go on vacation. No more driving around the country with a bunny cage in the backseat!
