Long Awaited Visit To Alvin
I took a wander around in the back woods yesterday. One of the little plants I saw this weekend that I thought was a native geranium is now in full bloom. It is not a geranium, but instead a native plant that I havent encountered before a Dentaria laciniata. Its a sweet little plant, a spring ephemeral.

Also found some other Trilliums that are not grandiflora. They are actually my favorite Trilliums, with wine red flowers, but their scientific name escapes me. Is it sanguinea? No thats Bloodroot Im thinking of. Damn. Hopefully youll all forgive this shameless lapse in my scientific knowledge.

The bunnies both went to see Alvin this afternoon. Lokis lack of interest in food this morning scared me to death, actually. Since Mirage already had an appointment for this afternoon I thought we should probably take him along to get checked out. After all, why take just one bunny when its so much more fun to drag around two?

Mirage didnt want to be dragged around at all. She wanted to stay home, and made this abundantly clear by running around the room, hiding behind the cage, thumping her back feet, and then, when I finally caught her, she peed on me.

Sigh. Well, whats a little urine between friends? As a matter of fact, I can completely understand her actions. There are many people in my life that I'd like to pee on occasionally.

I put her into the carrier, and went and changed clothes.

Alvin was very pleased with Miss Bunnys progress on the Bicillin. Her cheek appears completely healed. Her tear ducts are no longer leaking goop. Her only problem is that she still has a very slight infection in her eye.

She needs to see the veterinary opthamologists **. She probably needs to have the infection removed. Theres probably a flap that its gotten under and theyll have to clear that out.

I feel panicky. It sounds so serious. I have a vision of two cherry wood boxes on my bedside table instead of just one.

Its not reeeeally serious, is it? I ask. I mean, its not like real surgery, is it? I mean, its not like, dangerous, right?

Alvin looks mildly amused. Well, it does involve her eye and a sharp instrument.

"No, but like, she's not going to have like, the big anaesthesia, right? You know, like totally gone?" I'm so panicky I can't even formulate intelligent questions.

"Well, they'll use a gas anaethesia the same as we use. It's very safe. They may not do any surgery at all. If they do it'll probably involve..." He goes into a very simple explanation of the process which completely goes over my head because all I can think of is Miss Bunny without an eye or worse, without a physical body. I glance at Bruce. He looks unconcerned, so it must be ok.

In general, though, Alvin is very happy. In addition to her cheek healing, Miss Bunny has also gained a lot of weight. For two years we've been battling this infection, and we finally appear to be winning.

I'm knocking on wood as I write this though. No sense in taking chances.

Loki, however, has not gained weight. In fact, he has lost quite a few ounces. This concerns Alvin who decides to give him a Vitamin B shot to stimulate his appetite. He does a physical exam. Loki's teeth are fine, his ears are fine. He feels Loki's stomach, which is "doughey". That's good, doughey is the way rabbit stomachs are supposed to be.

"Is Mirage dominating him as far as food? Maybe because she's feeling better she's not letting him eat as much." he suggests.

"I don't know, they have such an S & M relationship under the best of circumstances sometimes I can't figure out what's going on."

"I hear ya. Rabbit relationships are pretty strange. Let's see him again in a week, we'll see if the Vitamin B helps." he gives Loki a scratch between the ears. Sigh. One rabbit gets healthy, the other rabbit gets sick.

***********************************************

Alvin's assistant, Chris, has some big news for us. I haven't seen her for awhile, and I missed a huge event in her life.

"Michael and I got hitched! On Valentine's Day!"

She says this with an unbelievably perky grin, and shows me the pictures. They got married in a beautifully rustic chapel in Mentone, one of the most lovely towns in Alabama. (Well, in my humble opinion anyway!) Chris looks gorgeous. She has a big bouquet of red roses, and she's wearing a greyish silk dress.

And it's a testament to the warmth of February in Alabama that the dress has spaghetti straps, and Chris is sure as hey not wearing a sweater!!

**Yeah, I know I spelled it wrong! So sue me!!
